DESINE-LAB, Central Falls, Rhode Island.
During the summer of 2014, I was a part of a design-build project comprised of students from Brown University, the Rhode Island School of Design, and Pontifical Xavierian University in Bogotá, Colombia. The project was apart of a master plan initiative by DESINE-Lab, an architecture collective that focuses on communities afflicted by sever economic distress. Working with the city of Central Falls, we collaborated on the design and construction of a public plaza located at 741 Dexter Street. The site was originally a parking lot and faced a main artery of Central Falls. The site was also cushioned between the main street and a primary school, where the site would receive high traffic volume of children, which made visibility and open flow crucial to the design of the plaza. The project was constructed within two months.
